# The Claude certifications, and whether you can actually take one Four exams exist. Most people reading this are not eligible to sit them, which is worth knowing before you spend a weekend studying. **Time:** 7 minutes **What you'll have when you're done:** A clear answer on whether the certification route is open to you, which of the four exams fits your job, and what to do instead if the door is shut. ---There are four Claude certifications. They are real, proctored exams sat under a webcam or at a test center, and a whole industry of study sites has grown around them. Start with the part those sites tend to bury: **the exams are open only to people at organizations in the Claude Partner Network.** You register through the Anthropic Partner Academy with a work email on a domain recognized on your company's partner record. Personal addresses are rejected. There is no public sign-up route. If your employer is not a partner, you cannot sit these exams today, however well you prepare. That is not a reason to stop reading. Only the total decides it, so one weak section cannot fail you on its own. - **Valid for 12 months.** Renew on time and it is a short, free, unproctored assessment on the Partner Academy. Let it lapse and you sit the full exam again at full price. - **Closed book.** No notes, no documentation, no AI assistant. - **English only.** Browser translation tools are not allowed during the exam. - **No prerequisites.** No exam requires another one first, and no course is mandatory. - **Retakes after 14 days, then 30, then 90**, with a ceiling of four attempts per exam per rolling 12 months. The limits are per exam, so failing one does not block another. - **Delivered by Pearson VUE**, with government photo ID checked against your registration name. Passing produces a badge through Credly. ## Which one, if you get the choice **CCAO-F is the only one written for people who do not build software.** It covers using Claude as a working tool: prompting, checking output, choosing models, setting up Projects and connectors, and knowing what not to hand over. For most readers of this site, it is the only one of the four that describes work they actually do. There is a catch worth knowing before you pick it. **The Associate exam is the one exam that does not count toward your company's Claude Partner Network standing.** The other three do. If your manager is funding this to lift the company's partner tier, they will want you sitting one of the technical exams instead. If you are doing it for yourself, that does not matter. ## Money Prices depend on your company's partner tier rather than being a single published number. Registered-tier partners pay full price. Select, Preferred and Global Premier tiers get 50% off automatically at checkout, and the discount applies to retakes too. Widely reported full prices run from about $99 for the Associate exam to about $175 for the Architect Professional exam, but treat those as a hint and confirm on the Partner Academy before you budget. Register and pay on the Partner Academy first, then book the sitting with Pearson VUE using the emailed link. A registration stays valid for five years, so paying now and sitting later is allowed. You can cancel or reschedule free up to 24 hours ahead. Inside that window, or a no-show, and the fee is gone. ## When it breaks **"I registered with my personal email and got rejected."** Expected. Registration is tied to a partner organization's corporate domain. **"My company might be a partner, I am not sure."** Ask whoever owns the vendor relationship, usually procurement or the IT lead who signed the contract. Being a customer is not the same as being a partner, and most companies paying for Claude are customers. **"I passed but it did not show up on my company's count."** The email domain again. A certification earned on a domain that is not on the partner record, including a subsidiary or regional domain, does not get credited. Domain changes go through partner support and take about 7 to 10 days, so ask before booking. **"I bought an official practice exam."** There is no longer an official practice exam for any of the four. The one that ran on the old platform was retired when the program moved to Pearson VUE, so anything sold as official today is a copy of a dead product. The sample questions in each exam guide are the only official signal about question style. **"I studied from a practice site and the real exam looked different."** Third-party practice questions are written by those sites, not drawn from the exam. They are useful for finding your weak domains. They are not a preview. ## If the door is shut The certification is a credential, not the skill. Being ineligible stops you from getting the badge. It does not stop you getting good at this, and in most jobs the second thing is what gets noticed. The published exam domains make a perfectly good free syllabus, and the Associate blueprint is the most revealing document in the program for ordinary work: checking output is its largest domain at 21%, governance is another 15%, and prompting is only 14%. Which is to say the exam agrees with the position this site takes. Knowing when to distrust an answer matters more than knowing how to ask for one.
